Small Business Support
Having been a small business owner in the past, as well managing several small businesses throughout my career, I know the challenges that you face on a regular basis.
- Increasing revenues while keeping costs level
- Training employees both initially and ongoing as laws, products and technology change
- Meeting weekly payroll costs
- Resisting the urge to dip into payroll tax funds to pay for an unexpected expense
- Going without a personal paycheck when times are tough

- Being prepared for government, financial or other industry audits and inspections
- Doing more with increased costs and pressure to keep prices low

Community Engagement
As I have been getting out to meet people on the campaign trail I have encountered many that have no interest in exercising their right to vote in the upcoming election. Some of the reasons stated are:
As representatives of the people I feel it is our duty to reach out to the community and make sure we understand the issues that are important to them.
We should be accessible in person and via email and/or social media.

- They don't feel their voice will be heard
- They don't understand or are frustrated with the process to express their concerns to the town
- They aren't registered and don't want to take the time to do so

The Revenue Growth Conundrum
Creating and managing a balanced budget is challenging. Covering anticipated budget shortfalls can only be done two ways; by increasing revenue (mainly though tax hikes) or by reducing costs (by cutting community services). The success of a balanced budget assumes that all departments are running are being run at efficiency.
No one wants their taxes raised (although limited use of debt exclusions has been successful for things like funding the new high school) and no one wants to cut costs by "downgrading" to bi-weekly trash collection or compromising roadway conditions. All of the services and improvements we are accustomed to cost money. The easiest way to increase revenue is to increase the number of people and businesses paying taxes (mainly property tax) however that can impact traffic, housing availability, and increase construction nuisances.
The "great idea but not in my neighborhood" factor kicks in. Adding new housing developments can add several hundred new residents that would shop, dine, work out, and seek out entertainment in town.
It all starts with a balanced budget but input from the community is crucial to ensuring the town leadership is focused on the right things.

Bring July 4th Fireworks back to Franklin
The July 4th festivities on the town common are an important tradition. Losing the fireworks due to the new high school construction was disappointing but understandable. Now that the school is built and fields are due to be completed this year, it's time to garner support to bring fireworks back to Franklin.
I will work with the members of the July 4th coalition and the town to try to remove any obstacles.
